All Kodako WordPress website designs hosted with SiteGround use a secure 2FA login using Google’s Authenticator. At Kodako we setup two factor authentication (2FA) login and even ban some countries, via IP address, from accessing content due to the high number of bots visiting client sites.
2FA is one of the easiest and most secure ways to protect your login and data against brute force attacks and identity theft.
It works by combining something that only you know, username and password, with something that only you can access, your smartphone.
When 2FA is enabled, in addition to your normal login, username and password, you will also be using a 6 digit number dynamically refreshed every 30 seconds on your smartphone app, Google Authenticator. Google Authenticator is free to download on Android and IOS from your app store. When 2FA is switched on, all admin and editor users will be asked to configure their 2FA on their next login.
Scan the QR code on the page with Google Authenticator on your phone and input the six digit code in order to log in.
Backup codes can be used in case you have lost access to your authenticator app. They are generated upon 2FA setup. Each code can only be used once. When a backup code is used, it will be removed from the list and you will not be able to use it again. If more than 5 backup codes are used, a new batch of codes will be automatically generated and available for usage. Login to your WP dashboard and go to Users > Profile to access the codes.
So now when you login to your website you will need your phone with Google Authenticator which will generate a new number every 30 seconds. Simply key the number in and Authenticate to login to your WP Dashboard.
